Having some fun with a shot I took over the weekend at the ballgame.  And no, I wasn’t creeping on some stranger…just my daughter’s boyfriend. =D

Before & After 3/31/11

by brenda

This is 2-of-3.  She has the most compassionate heart for hurting people.
I admire that so much.

And I love her.  That is all. :-)

After

Canon Rebel XTi, 50mm, 1/2.8, 1/250, ISO 200. Edited with CS5.
(I gave Rita’s Perfect Portrait 3 a try for the first time on this image.
The action is free at The CoffeeShop Blog.)

Before & After 3/10/11

by brenda

For this week’s Before & After I thought I’d try some suggestions from Monday’s Critique This! post and apply them to the photo and see what we end up with.  I think it’s better!…

Shot with a Canon Rebel XTi, EF 28-135 at 41mm, f/8, 1/400, 100 ISO
Edited with Photoshop CS5

Before                                                                  After

I had sharpened with the Highpass Filter in the original, so I bumped it up
by duplicating the layer, then reducing the opacity to 49%.

To add more contrast I changed the Black & White adjustment layer
from Default to the Darker preset.

Then I upped the contrast more by deepening the
Midtones Levels adjustment from 1.68 to 1.24.

And I made no changes to the following:
Hue/Saturation adjustment to colorize with yellow.
Kim Klassen Golden texture on Multiply at 64%,
and her Vintage texture on Overlay at 58%.

Thanks to Tiffany, Winn, Prem, Kimberly, and Angela for the help!  The edit definitely has more of the moody feel I was going for.  I didn’t try blurring the background because there’s way too much try to mask.  I do still feel like the sky is too bright, but I suppose that’s to be expected shooting on a bright sunshiny day.

Bright sunshiny day?  Now I have a combination of the Brady Bunch and Johnny Nash stuck in my head. :-)

I just realized I forgot to link up over at PP…oops!!

Before & After 3/3/11

by brenda

I know the birds will be building new nests soon, but when I spied this one in a tree low enough for me to get a good shot, I had to stop and take the picture. It’s amazing how God built such ability into His birds.  I mean, I sure couldn’t create something like this!  And then to have it still intact after nearly a year? Really, it’s marvelous, as well as a reminder of hope that spring is coming again.

Before…
SOOC, Canon Rebel XTi, 135mm, f/5.6, 1/125, ISO 100

And after…

Edited in CS5
Basic edit…slight sharpen, curves & hue adjustments.
Kim Klassen’s Life’s Good texture on Darken at 100%,
then duplicated on Soft Light at 60%.
(btw…Kim gives a free texture each week to those on her email list)
Also Kim’s Golden texture on Soft Light at 60%,
then duplicated on Overlay at 45%.
Still needed some warmth so I added Warming Filter 85 on Normal at 100% .

Creating with CSB’s ColorBar

by brenda

Rita over at The CoffeeShop Blog posted her latest creation for Photoshop and Elements yesterday…a template to create a custom color palette based on a photo.   I couldn’t resist playing with it with one of my favorites.  Oh, btw…the template is FREE!

This was so much fun!  You can download the ColorBar template here.  And since I was not that familiar with clipping masks, I found Rita’s tutorial here very helpful.

Go ahead…you know you want to!  =)

P.S.  Ok, so when I previewed this post, I had to laugh because I noticed that the color palette is nearly identical to the one on my blog.  No wonder I like it so much!
