The Heart Remembers

by brenda

I can almost smell them even now.  Their scent that day was intoxicating, and if you’ve ever experienced the perfume of a hyacinth, you know exactly what I mean.

Funny how some scents linger in the memory…

A loved one’s cologne.

A baby fresh from the bath.

Wood smoke on the first crisp night of fall.

And although the physical sense doesn’t actually smell their aroma…

the heart remembers.

It’s the same with God’s love and calling and purpose.  For even when we’re struggling in His hand or trying to flee from His presence, there really is no escape.

Thank God.

Because as He holds us tight against His chest, wrapped in the scent of His hope and peace and joy, the heart remembers…

I Said…He Said

by brenda

I said…

Discouraged.

Hurt.

Withdraw.

Hide.

Give up.

He said…

I know.

It’s okay.

Come here.

Hide in Me.

Don’t quit now.

I said…

I’m tired.

It’s too much.

Nobody cares.

I can’t.

He said…

I know.

It’s just enough.

I care.

I will.

Remember why.

I said…

Oh yeah.

Remember why.

You can.

I’m back.

The New Has Come ~ Scripture & A Snapshot Week 29

by brenda

No matter your past…

your struggle…

your doubt…

if you are Christ’s…

the new has come.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.
The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”

~ 2 Corinthians 5:17 ~

Unfolding Light ~ Scripture & A Snapshot ~ Week 28

by brenda

I can’t always see at first.

It’s dark…hazy…

and any kind of understanding is obscured by the immediate.

But if I wait a bit…

look a little closer…

try to see beyond the obvious…

sometimes I get to see the Glorious.

“The unfolding of Your words gives light;
it imparts understanding to the simple.”

~ Psalm 119:130 ~

Stepping Beyond the End

by brenda

What does a woman do when she comes to the end?

It doesn’t really matter what the end is…any end means change.  And I don’t know about you, but change makes me uncomfortable.

Unless the change is my idea…then I’m all for it!

Life isn’t like that though, and our Father has a way of bringing change to us in order to cause change in us…so that we might step beyond the end.

“I feel like I’m standing at the edge of something…something that takes a step into the unknown…perhaps something I’ve never truly taken…a real step of faith.”

I wrote the above about 5 months ago…when I knew change was at hand and I felt a desire to share the end and the beginning and the in between.  His message…the thoughts and ideas and impressions from my Abba that whisper in the quiet.

The things I’m absolutely certain are from Him.

At least at first I’m certain.

Then comes the doubt…the other whispers that say “who am I to think I could speak His words into anyone else?…It’s not God, it’s just your imagination.”

Lies, I know.  But we women have a long history of acting according to the lies we’re told.

But occasionally I risk and share the words.   They’re here and there, scattered among the photos and family stuff and personal goals.

They’re actually quite well hidden…unintentionally intentional perhaps.

Perhaps afraid for anyone to see my words.

Perhaps afraid that no one will.

On the edge of change, afraid to be seen, afraid to remain unseen, but with a faith in a Father who proves Himself time and again and promises the incredible…

Don’t be afraid…you are Mine.  I have called you and I will hold your hand. (Isaiah 43:1, 41:13)

He holds my hand.

He…holds…my…hand!

He had those words penned thousands of years ago for me…for us…we women who want little more than for someone to hold our hands when we are afraid.

And so I step again, my little girl hand enveloped in the grasp of my Father.

Hold on tight Abba!

She Speaks ConferenceAs timid as it is, my heart is to serve Him and his daughters as He leads.  The She Speaks Conference is about exactly that…”women connecting the hearts of women to the heart of our Father God.”

Perhaps you also have a heart to share, to pour into the souls of other women. The She Speaks Conference is a place “where you will receive the tools and the confidence to answer God’s call on your life.”  Just click on the button to learn more.

Also, Ann Voskamp (one thousand gifts) is offering a scholarship to She Speaks 2011.  She tells of this “gathering of mentors” here, as well as the scholarship details.  I also encourage you to visit her regularly at a holy experience.
