Before & After 2/24/11

by brenda

I truly have become a texture junkie.  I love photography and capturing images with my camera, but I think I love the creative process with the photos afterward even more.  This shot was taken at the Missouri River an hour or so after sunrise this past Saturday.  This tree precariously hangs off the bank of the river, and the color of the bark is unbelievably white.  The light of the morning really doesn’t show it off at all.

SOOC, Canon Rebel XTi, 60mm, f/8, 1/320, ISO 800

I wanted to give the sense of how special this tree was in its surroundings.  It took a bit of experimenting, but I finally came up with a texture combination that I felt did just that.

The recipe…
Edited in CS5
Slight crop and touch up with the Spot Healing Brush.
Sharpened with the High Pass Filter.
Slight Levels and very slight Hue adjustments.
Coffee Shop Blog Vintage Cream texture on Multiply at 100% opacity.
Duplicated the above layer and left it on Multiply at 75% opacity.
Kim Klassen Vintage Texture on Overlay at 90%.

Sweet Shot Sunrise

by brenda

As I mentioned in my 365 post, a girlfriend and I went out early Saturday morning to see if we could catch the sunrise.  Well, the Master Artist was in rare form.  I don’t think I’ve ever seen such vivid color!  The only editing I did below was noise reduction, sharpening, and a little cropping. God sure knows how to put on a show!  Such a gift!

Scripture & A Snapshot ~ Week 22

by brenda

“This is what the Lord says —
your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:
‘I am the Lord your God,
who teaches you what is best for you,
who directs you in the way you should go.’”

Before & After 2/17/11

by brenda

Linking up with Monica’s Before & After at Pixel Perfect again this week.  Another of the birds I’ve taken this winter.  Love me some texture!

Before
SOOC, Canon Rebel XTi, 300mm, f/5.6, 1/1250, ISO 400

After

Edited with CS5
First I changed the white balance from Auto to Shade in Camera Raw.
Then I cropped it and sharpened it slightly with the High Pass Filter.
Next I adjusted the levels and did a very slight hue saturation adjustment.
I finished it with 2 layers of Kim Klassen’s Vintage Texture
the first one was on Multiply at 60%, the second on Overlay at 45%.
I did add a mask to the last layer and brushed some of the texture off the bird,
and then faded it on Soft Light at about 40%.

Critique This! Week 1

by brenda

Monica at Pixel Perfect is hosting a new blog hop, Critique This! Everyone who links up is invited to critique one another’s photos.  It’s all about learning and growing with our photography.  I know I can use all the help I can get!

Here’s my entry this week…

This is from this past Monday.  Taken with my Canon Rebel XTi, 50mm, f/1.8, 1/25 (I don’t think this is right…the others I took were at 1/320 and 1/160…and no way I could have hand-held at 1/25 either), ISO 400, edited with CS5.
